Lake of the Woods sweeps Wadena-Deer Creek
CROOKSTON - For the second consecutive year the Lake of the Woods Bears had to beat Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in the semifinals and the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines in the finals of the Section 8-2A tournament to earn a trip to state.

On Saturday, Lake of the Woods repeated the 2005 scenario, sweeping the Wolverines 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 for the title.

The Bears were led by setter Courtney Bitter's 25 assists, six kills and three ace serves.

Lake of the Woods defeated D-G-F and Wadena-Deer Creek in the Section 8-2A tournament last season on its way to the state championship.

One thing that will be different for the Bears at state Thursday will be their head coach. The Minnesota State High School League suspended LOW head coach Laurie Bitter for this year's postseason due to a rule infraction regarding the number of games in which a team can compete.

Jim Magnusen, Jill Olson and Jason Wilson have shared head coaching duties for the Bears this postseason.

Carlie Waibel had a team-high 12 kills for LOW.

Alexa Hoffman led the Wolverines with a game-high 14 kills.

Wadena-Deer Creek 21 19 21

Overall: WDC finishes 22-5.
