LOCAL SHORTS Registration for Oliphant tournament under way
The Minnesota Basketball Association and Central Lakes Community College Foundation will host a two-day tournament to benefit the Jeff Oliphant Brainerd Memorial Scholarship Dec. 16-17 at Central Lakes College in Brainerd and Forestview Middle School in Baxter.
Teams in grades 5-9 will compete in A and B divisions. Trophies will be awarded for first and second place.
Cost is $160 per team. Checks should be made payable and mailed to: Minnesota Basketball Association, Attn: Tournament Registration, 1510 Niagara St., Waconia, Minn., 55387.

Sled dog race Nov. 18-19 at BIR
Mushers and sled dogs on wheels will converge on Brainerd International Raceway for sled dog racing competition beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 18-19.
Cost is $5 day for adults, $2 for students ages 12-16 and free for children under 12.
Rig racing, bikejoring, scooter racing and canicross will be featured on BIR's 3.7-mile course starting at turn 6. Sled dogs will run on a dirt/sand trail along the asphalt road racing track.
Qualifying pros will be compete for $5,125.
