Open Forum: Struggling with cancer
More times than often I find it so hard to keep it together no matter how hard I try, I just feel lousy all the time.

My emotions just seem to creep up on me out of nowhere.

One minute I feel good. The next I just want to cry my heart out. Fighting cancer is just so hard emotionally. No one sees me crying inside all the time.

Talking to my friends and family doesn't seem to help.

I can't release these emotions that take over my mind and heart. They're just so strong. I want to scream at the top of my lungs and the tears I fight every day just flow no matter how hard I try to fight it.

I try to keep myself busy every day so I don't have to think about the cancer, but the fear of coming out of remission is always there. And sometimes I don't have the strength to fight the anger, hate and fear inside me.

The worst feeling is loneliness. I just want to feel good again, normal. It's been so long.

I find myself zoning out a lot, wanting to just shut off my mind, starting straight ahead but not seeing anything. How easy it would be just to turn every thing off for a moment of peace. Sometimes I feel it would be easier to just give up.

Every day I pray for strength, courage and wisdom and I'm grateful for another day.

I know in my heart I'm truly never alone and neither are you. Strength is the key to survival. You are not alone.

God loves everyone

Is there anything more disconcerting, more appalling, and more hypocritical than a supposed "person of God" deeming certain individuals unworthy, unwanted and unacceptable? I'm not even talking about Osama Bin Laden and his hatred of infidels like you and me. I'm talking about fellow Americans - pastors, even - who believe gays shouldn't be leaders in the Lutheran church simply because they are gay. Should we also keep out people with red hair, green eyes and women who are attracted to losers? The recent resignation by a pastor in Little Falls over the acceptance of gay leaders in the Lutheran church highlights a disturbing trend: many people nowadays view God as a bigot and use his supposed bigotry to justify their own.

When I was a kid and suffering through Sunday school, I was taught that God was a loving God who is everywhere and in everything. My Sunday school teacher didn't specifically say so, but I think that includes in churches led by gay clergy, as well as in gay parishioners, who despite having this quality that is supposedly despised by God, still manage to have a positive, comforting relationship with the very God that hates them.

When I read statements in the paper by local church leaders saying they are upset by the decision to allow gay church leaders, and that the church should "return to being true and faithful to what our faith should be," I want to ask what happened to that God that loves everyone? Is a loving, accepting God now lumped in with gays and other undesirables that are not welcome in our churches or in our hearts? I'm not a church-goer, but if I were, I think I'd rather go to a church with a gay leader instead of a homophobic

Renew government

Government appetite for money is insatiable; all governments find use for as much money as they can raise. Indeed they have common demands for more. We're in debt way beyond our means to repay. They'll never be restrained by the necessity to repay.

The current attempts at health care reform are a perfect example. We cannot afford any of what they intend; but they push on with the intent to redistribute wealth. Wealth is arrived at by hard work and not a gift to the lazy or faint-hearted. We must oppose all of these attempts or our freedom and enjoyment of our blessings are in dire jeopardy.

The people should elect wise representatives, men of integrity and in similar circumstances as themselves. Will the people re-elect the same men to repeat oppressive legislation and commit suicide against themselves, and discard all of the principles and interests of self-preservation? Therefore we must have the same interests and be equally subject to the laws.

We must bring our elected officials under the same benefits we receive. The cost of our government has become so far beyond our means to sustain it. We will receive no cost of living increase but our elected officials have voted themselves a large increase. They must also be placed under Social Security and Medicare just as we are; our peers who know how our lives have been affected should be placed in office. It's time to renew representative government and get rid of pork politics that is now in place.

A new health care bill that requires 2,000 pages and 10 lawyers to understand it is unacceptable. Take note you who are in office, you will not be reelected if you take away our earned benefits or increase the national debt, drop the pork.
