Crow Wing County Human Rights Commission seeks award nominations
The Crow Wing County Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations for the seventh annual Crow Wing County Human Rights Award.
Each year, the human rights commission gives an award to recognize and honor a Crow Wing County resident whose actions have demonstrated standards of tolerance, diversity, opposition to discrimination and fair treatment of all county residents regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, handicap or sexual orientation.
The commission seeks to promote harmony in the community by advocating for basic human rights and non-discrimination.
Nominations may be made by anyone and must meet the selection criteria. Selection will be based on the individual's activity or work relating to the commission's mission and for actions that are above and beyond a paid employee's usual job responsibilities.
Nominees must be ages 12 to 18 for the youth category and older than 18 for the adult category. The individual must be a Crow Wing County resident whose actions took place in 2009 in the county. There is no monetary award for this recognition.
Nominators may remain anonymous. Nominations should be submitted on the prepared form and must be received by Dec. 11. Forms can be obtained by calling 824-1369, ext. 1351.
Previous honorees include Martha Smolka Anderson, Jan Kurtz, Paul Milloy, Sara Dunlap and Dick Endres.
