Albertus 'Bud' Dodson
GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. - Albertus Frederick "Bud" Dodson, M.D., was born April 26, 1926, in Wilber, Neb., and died Oct. 31, 2009, in Green Valley, Ariz., at the age of 83.
Dr. Dodson was the first board certified pediatrician to practice in the Brainerd lakes area, arriving in 1956. He was a founding member of the Northland Clinic and also served as the first medical director of the Brainerd State Hospital. He practiced in Brainerd until 1979 when he semi-retired and relocated to Arizona. He fully retired from medicine in 1989.
Dr. Dodson attended Tulane University and graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1950; he completed his pediatric fellowships at the University of Michigan and the University of Colorado-Denver. He was a 40-plus year member of the United States Naval Reserve Medical Corps reaching the rank of captain and a life member of the Reserve Officers Association. He was an emeritus fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Dodson was a longtime member of the Brainerd Kiwanis Club.
Dr. Dodson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen L. (Roller) Dodson; and their three children, Frederick Porter Dodson (Vicki Hurst), of Moraga, Calif., Marianne Dodson Hayden (John D. Hayden Jr., M.D.), of Tucson, Ariz., and Benjamin Albertus Dodson, of Breckenridge, Colo. He is also survived by one grandson, Joshua Dodson Hayden, of Tucson, Ariz. The family respectfully requests that any memorials benefit the St. Joseph's Medical Center Pediatric Unit.
