Board OKs sale of land to Pine River
By MONICA LUNDQUIST Cass County Correspondent WALKER - Cass County Board voted Tuesday to authorize selling a land parcel in Walden Township to the city of Pine River for $37,000 to enable the city to install a new well. Walden Town Board unanimously voted earlier to support the sale.
Land Commissioner Norm Moody obtained board approval for the county to purchase for $150,000 an acreage east of Oxyoke Lake that abuts Deep Portage Conservation Reserve and county-administered land. The property will enable accessing county-managed timber not currently accessible due to terrain in that area.
The existing easement for Morrison Lake Road in Beulah Township will be expanded to permit installing a well and fire hydrant. Crooked Lake Township Fire Department serves that area and would use the hydrant.
The county sold 6,382 cords of wood for $151,265.33 to loggers at an Oct. 25 auction. The average price paid for aspen ran $29.23 per cord, with all other tree species drawing lower bids ranging down to $12 for balsam poplar.
