LOCAL BRIEFS Post office closed Monday for Veterans Day
The Brainerd Post Office will operate on a holiday schedule Monday in observance of Veterans Day.
Postmaster David Fuchs said regular residential and business deliveries will not be made Monday and usual post office lobby services will not be available, with the exception of post office lock box service.
Mail pickup from collection boxes also will be on a holiday schedule, as posted on individual boxes.
Fuchs said that mailing services will continue to be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the Baxter branch station, at the Triangle Store in Baxter.
YAR awards grant<br>
The Brainerd Lakes Youth as Resources awarded a $253 grant to the "Homecoming 2007" project to Lincoln Elementary School students Oct. 18.
The students requested the funds for a homecoming banner to display at the school during homecoming. Students also carried the banner during the homecoming parade.
Rental property owners meeting planned for Monday
Deanna Hemmesch, program manager from Central Minnesota Housing Partnership, will be at the last rental owners meeting of the year at 7 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd Police Department to explain Home Rental Rehabilitation Program.
The program offers rental property owners a deferred loan for project costs to rehabilitate their buildings. Eligible building improvements include, but are not limited to roofs, siding, windows, floor coverings and painting. Hemmesch will discuss the application process and requirements for eligibility.
There will also be a video on the meth problem in Minnesota titled "Revealing Meth In Minnesota." It is narrated by WCCO anchor Don Shelby and features people from the Brainerd area who have been addicted to meth and have turned their lives around.
