Adviser nomination: Amanda and KC bring a year of experience to the Fifth Street Journal. They were the first junior students to be able to take journalism, during which time they grew as writers and designers. As editors-in-chief this year, they have emerged as leaders.
Amanda Jay
Age: 18.
Memorable fine arts achievement: Completing the first issue of the Fifth Street Journal last year. I was proud to be a part of it.

Your best writing: My first Sign Language article I did. It turned out really good, I had a lot of information on it and it was well written. I wrote it before she (Melissa Wooden, a Brainerd High School Sign Language teacher) died. I showed her my copy the day before she died (in a recent automobile accident). The story means even more to me now after she died.
Last movie you saw in theater: The Proposal.
Favorite TV programs: The Mentalist, NCIS and The Jay Leno Show.
Favorite book: She Said Yes.
Favorite publication to read: 'The Dispatch.' I read it every morning, it's part of my daily routine. A weekly I read is 'NASCAR Scene.'
Favorite food: My dad's ribs.
Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Mike Jay of Brainerd.
KC Jacobs
Age: 17.
Artist most admired: Justin Beckett, a Canadian graphic artist designer.
Memorable fine arts achievement: Becoming editor-in-chief this year.
Your best graphic: The front page header I designed that runs in every issue. It's clean, consistent and more professional. Unlike last year (when) we changed it almost every issue.
Creepiest movie of all time: Fingerprints.
Least favorite TV program: Any kind of political news.
Favorite band: Breaking Benjamin.
Favorite song: Untitled by Simple Plan.
Favorite food: Macaroni and cheese.
Parents: Marvin and Cathy Jacobs of Baxter.
Honorable mention: Kelsey Olson, senior, art: Olson's art adviser said, Kelsey is very skilled at hand-building in pottery. She is patient, taking her time with detail of each pot she creates. She likes to use her imagination to create unusual and decorative pottery pieces that are very well crafted and interesting to look at. I can't wait to see how she works and creates at the potters wheel.
