LOCAL BRIEFS Benefit fundraiser planned for Posch
LITTLE FALLS - A benefit will be 4 p.m. Friday at the Little Falls VFW for Little Falls High School graduate, Bruce Posch.
Posch is the son of Leonard and Lydia Posch of Little Falls and was a member of the 1975 State Championship High School Basketball Team.
On Sept. 8, Posch received a kidney and pancreas transplant. The benefit is being planned by former classmates and will include a spaghetti dinner, bake sale and silent auction beginning at 4 p.m. Music, provided by Corridor, will begin at 7 p.m.
Course to promote youth programs
The University of Minnesota Extension Youth Work Institute will bring "Quality Matters," an 18-hour curriculum taught by a team of youth workers and University facilitators at Central Lakes College. The course promotes quality youth programs. Curriculum is for teams of three to five.
Quality Matters is an eight-month assessment and learning project that provides participants with information, skills and hands-on support to improve the quality of their youth programs and provide positive experiences for youths.
Registration is $500 per team.

Donations sought for Operation Christmas Child
Local volunteers will be collecting shoe boxes packed by local families to be donated to "Operation Christmas Child." The packages will be sent to suffering children around the world affected by devastating disasters. Boxes will be collected at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 22, 23 and 24.
Gift-filled shoe boxes will be sent to children in more than 90 countries.
Boxes can be packed with school supplies, toys, necessity items, candy and letters of encouragement. Step by step packing instructions are available at www.samaritanspurse.org.
Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered more than 61 million gift-filled shoe boxes to needy children in some 130 countries.

EZ Enrollment Days set for spring, summer registration at CLC
Central Lakes College announced the dates for EZ Enrollment Days, the streamlined new-student registration process at the community and technical college in Brainerd and Staples.
EZ Enrollment for the 2009 spring semester will start at 9 a.m. on the Brainerd campus on the following dates: Thursday as well as Dec. 4, Dec. 18 and Jan. 8. EZ Enrollment at Staples will start at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 9.
EZ Enrollment Day affords to prospective students the best selection of classes. It includes everything needed to complete the admissions process.
For information, contact the admissions office at 855-8037. In order to complete the admissions process, a $20 application fee is payable at EZ Enrollment Day.
Brainerd Lakes Area Friends of Scouting Leadership Dinner set
Dan Werthman, a minister in the Evangelical Free Church of America and an Eagle Scout, will be the featured speaker at the Brainerd Lakes Area Friends of Scouting Leadership Dinner on Dec. 4 at the Quarterdeck's Boathouse. Hors d' oeuvres and a silent auction begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Werthman, an attorney, received a bachelor's degree in social sciences from Colorado State University, a master of divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and law degree from Hamline University School of Law. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a judge advocate.
Individual tax-deductible tickets are $50. Table sponsorships, four to 10 seats, are available for $45 per seat.
