Eight inches of snow in the Brainerd area stopped many people but for others the snowfall meant a longer work day. All schools were closed. Many businesses said several employees reported late for work.
30 years ago (1978)
The site of Brainerd and Baxter's new shopping mall has been cleared and leveled recently in preparation for construction of the 238,150-square foot complex. Among the businesses which will be housed are K-Mart, Red Owl, White Drug, Bostwick's Clothing Store and two theaters.
40 years ago (1968)
The year's first heavy snowfall dumped 18 inches of white stuff in Duluth, but only about 2 1/2 inches in Brainerd. Roads in the area did become slippery, however.
60 years ago (1948)
The Brainerd Exchange Club is offering $5, a first and only cash prize to the boy or girl of the Franklin Junior or Washington High School who enters the best design for a winter sports program emblem.
80 years ago (1928)
¥ N.E. Lunch now open for business. Malt and hot lunches, 20¢. Lunches served at all hours. Also regular meals, 35¢. Home made pies a specialty.
¥ Bargains at Luken's Big Variety Store, brooms, 39¢.
100 years ago (1908)
Parker's Store is a beauty. New dry goods store to open Saturday to be one of the handsomest in the city.Very Handsome Fixtures.
The store is located at 704 Front Street. The store front is white enamel brick with handsome windows.
