Downtown Brainerd to celebrate Holli-Days
with lighted holiday parade
The lighted Holli-Day Parade returns to downtown Brainerd after eight years and includes a lighted holiday parade on Dec. 12.
The route starts at South Ninth Street on Front Street and goes west until South Seventh Street where it turns south for one block before following Laurel Street back to South Ninth Street. The parade has room for 50 units, with spots still available, the Brainerd Lakes Chamber reported. Anyone can enter in the parade, entry forms are available from Brainerd Community Action, organizer of the parade. Floats must be illuminated.
Before the 4:30 p.m. Dec. 12 lighted Holli-Days Parade, there are several scheduled activities.
Santa arrives on a fire truck at 10:45 a.m. at 708 Laurel Street. Pictures with Santa are scheduled between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. free horse-drawn trolley rides between downtown and the Franklin Arts Center are planned. Sponsors are the Brainerd Dispatch and Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union. Santa's Workshop and treats are also planned at the Franklin Arts Center.
Ongoing activities throughout Dec. 12 include: The option to buy a Blinkie Button for $2 at participating businesses to receive discounts and specials; voting for your favorite window display in stores or at www.DowntownBrainerd.com; registering to win a holiday dinner.
Participating businesses include A to Z Thrift Shop; Allstate Insurance Charles Brenny Agency, The Bead Box, Bob & Fran's Factory Direct, Brainerd BN Credit Union, Chocolate Etc., Coco Moon, Downtown Art & Frame Co., E.L. Menk Jewelers, The Gallery, Mattie & Me Consignment Boutique, Northwind Grille, Shep's on Sixth, Thrifty White Pharmacy, TJ's Log Cabin, Totally Kidz Shop and Yesterday's Gone.
Downtown Holli-Days 2009 are made possible through the Brainerd Main Street program and major event sponsors Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc., Widseth Smith Nolting, and the Brainerd Lakes Chamber.
