Anyone who thinks the traditional Brainerd-Crosby sports rivalry is over wasn't at Friday's basketball game. Fans from both towns came to blows after the game, which was won by Brainerd by 15 points. No one seems to know who won the fight.
40 years ago (1969)
Brainerd fluoridation opponents won a delay in the purchase of fluoridation equipment when the city council voted to table bids. Winston Borden, attorney for the opponents, says 233 of 453 Minnesota cities have not fluoridated and are watching Brainerd.
60 years ago (1949)
The REA today approved an $800,000 loan for the Crow Wing Cooperative Power and Light company, Brainerd, said Congressman Fred Marshall. The funds will be used to complete projects and extend 383 miles of new lines in Crow Wing, Cass and Morrison.
80 years ago (1929)
The season for trapping and shooting of wolves is on, and farmers are bringing in their pelts to the auditor's office for bounty. More than twenty wolves have been presented thus far for the bounty of $15 each for full grown, and $6 each for cubs.
100 years ago (1909)
Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Thurston, of Aldrich, were in the city today on their way home from Backus, where he had been enjoying a deer hunt. He was lucky and brought down the limit in three days of hunting. J.A. Warner, of Staples, also secured a fine deer.
