Flying Warriors win opener 8-4 GIRLS' HOCKEY
LITTLE FALLS - Molly Peltoma and CJ Arndt each scored two goals to help the Brainerd Flying Warriors win their opener 8-4 against the Detroit Lakes Lakers Tuesday at Exchange Arena.
Arndt and Zoe Wolhart, playing on a line with Peltoma, each had two assists.
"That line played very well tonight," Flying Warriors coach Rod Peltoma said.
Sarah Gorvin and Lizzy Desrocher scored in the first period as B/LF took a 2-1 lead.
Peltoma scored both her goals in the second as the Flying Warriors opened up a 4-2 edge.
Arndt had two of the Flying Warriors' four goals in the third. Hailey Joyce and Sarah Sorenson scored the others.
"I was very pleased with our overall effort for the first game of the season," Rod Peltoma said. "Obviously, there are many things we know we have to work on, many things we have to improve on, but I saw a lot of good things from a lot of different players. Some of our younger players got lots of playing time. They all stepped up and did great."
In her first varsity game, Flying Warriors goalie Jodi Bertrand stopped eight shots.
"Jodi did just fine," Rod Peltoma said. "She made the saves she needed to. She kept us in the game early."
The Flying Warriors gave up two power-play goals.
"Probably the one negative I saw was we had five penalties, they only had one, and they scored two power-play goals," Rod Peltoma said. "Quite frankly, we haven't worked a lot on penalty kill. Two power-play goals out of five is not necessarily a good percentage."
