Fish house parade takes shape
AITKIN - The 18th annual World Famous Fish House Parade presented by Credit Unions of Minnesota happens the day after Thanksgiving on Nov. 28 in Aitkin.

This year's grand marshal will be Crunch, the Minnesota Timberwolves mascot, brought to you by Bare's Bootery and The Office Shop.

Fish houses and floats are decorated in various themes ranging from Grumpy Old Women to the movie "Jaws," complete with a shark swimming around a wobbling fish house.

There will be a pancake breakfast and an arts and crafts fair at the Westside Church building from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lunch will be served there too or go to the Methodist Church at noon, where they are serving lasagna. The American Legion will have Kinship's soup and chili cook-off. At noon, the Fish House Five-K (almost) will have 3-person teams running a relay in full Minnesota winter gear.

The parade begins at 1 p.m. There's more food on the street, shopping and Santa! Immediately after the parade will be the awards ceremony for entry winners judged by folks who have never seen the parade before. The day winds down with great music, and of course, Bremer Bank will be serving a wonderful fish stew or supper at 5 p.m.

For information contact the Aitkin Area Chamber of Commerce (800) 526-8342 or e-mail upnorth@aitkin.com.

Other sponsors include Paulbecks' County Market, Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Ripple River Motel, the Aitkin Independent Age, Eddy's Waterfront Resort and Riverwood Healthcare Center.
