Brainerd School District officials plan to present recommendations regarding the 2008-09 budget to school board members within the next two months.
Brainerd Superintendent Steve Razidlo Thursday told the Brainerd School Board's Finance Committee that he'd like the committee to review the budget in December and to make a recommendation to the school board by January.
Razidlo noted the committee has spent several hours studying budget scenarios. And he noted the board directed administration to focus on three areas - finances, curriculum and communications.
Razidlo said now is the time to take a closer look at the budget and to make the needed revisions. He said administration is going to have to start considering next year's programs, a decision contingent on the district's current financial status.
"The budget has bearing on a lot of issues," said Razidlo. "What our impressions on cuts would be, what additional resources we can add or what additional cuts we'd make ... a lot of it rests on feeling confident with our budget."
The district also is in the midst of losing Steve Dickinson, director of business services, who resigned effective Dec. 19.
In other school business, the committee will recommend that the board allocate nearly $215,000 in staff development funds to be divided among the district's buildings for use for staff development initiatives in each school. An equal amount of staff development funds will go toward districtwide and exemplary initiatives.
After the committee adjourned, the Personnel Committee met in a closed session to discuss non-certified contract negotiation strategies. No action was taken.
