Open Forum: Tick, tock, your taxes are going up
By the time you finish reading this, property taxes statewide will have increased by another $1,000. If you are a slow reader - by as much as $2,000. You heard right - since the end of 2002, Minnesota property taxes have increased $1 thousand a minute, and are projected to increase by another $549 million next year. This brings us to a grand total of $2.7 billion - a 60 percent increase under the leadership of a governor who has No New Taxes as his mantra.
Theres more - school levies will hit the $2 billion mark by 2008, erasing the relief from 2001. And, despite the best efforts of Democrats, as of Friday, Nov. 16, our state has gone 1,781 days in a row without property tax relief.
No wonder Minnesotans are reeling. Clearly, no new taxes is anything but.

Life isnt always fair
What happened to The Warrior Way? Warriors dont give in! Warriors are tough! They embrace lifes challenges and keep their heads up! Now is the time for our schools to show us there is more to The Warrior Way than words at pep rallies. Its time for our schools to embrace lifes challenges. No one promised us life would be fair. It has ups and downs, and what we do with those ups and those downs is in our own hands. Will we face them The Warrior Way? Or will we humiliate ourselves and our families with public temper tantrums? It doesnt matter how much you have. It matters what you do with what youve got.

Warriors are still the best
Warriors arent whiners. We're winners. We stand tall and proud and we dont give in. At the pep rally we all agreed that Brainerd is full of peaceful people who love each other. Now were all acting like enemies. Thats not the Brainerd way. Lets move on into the future and put our differences aside and try to make our community better, not tear it apart. We can get through this if we pull together. When our Warrior spirit is put to the test we will conquer! Were the best!
