Let's have an open debate
Open Forum
This letter is in response to all the people who are upset about my letter about Obama not being qualified. Good. What upset you the most? The fact that all the information I get comes from the Democrats or the fact that you voted for him or the fact you have deal with your own conscience or is it you just don't like the truth?

Answer this question. Is this a Communist country? If you answered no then please explain to me who Obama is forcing health care down our throats, forcing people to buy health insurance or be penalized. That's extortion. Please explain to me why Obama talks about the 10 million unemployed but yet allows 10-20 million illegal immigrants to stay and work. Did you know for every illegal immigrant with a job there's one American without a job? How much money leaves the U.S.A. economy every year? So if you Democrats care so much about the people why do you let the politicians tell you what to think and what to believe. Let me ask you a personal question. What kind of a fetus were you in your mother's womb? If you answer human why do you support abortion? Abortion is murder. Murder willingly taking a human life. Human fetus equals human being. So why are the taxpayers paying for abortions? Because you Democrat voters voted for it now because someone does not agree with you. I'm a liar. You Democrats complain about wasting taxpayer money - just like me - but yet when I want to stop it I'm a liar. Maybe you Democrats should explain yourselves. How about an open debate? You Democrats can explain yourselves to me and answer all my questions. Let's quit arguing in the paper.

God bless troops and America.

A unique partnership

This was our second year of a unique partnership serving the women in the Aitkin, Crosby-Ironton and Brainerd lakes area. On Nov. 11, 12 and 13 the Brainerd Lakes Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was privileged to work with the Mdewakanton Tribe, Brainerd Lakes Health System, Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, Riverwood Hospital and the Brainerd Dispatch to provide mammograms, at no cost, for 88 women. In the coming month, the Brainerd Lakes Health System will also provide an additional 28 free mammograms as a continuation of this effort. For three days, we helped the women of our communities with education and examinations while working together with the professionals of the Tribe and our area medical facilities. We want to give a special thank you to the Mdewakanton Tribe for the donation of their multi-million dollar portable mammo-unit and staff for this effort. We are proud to be a part of this unique partnership and these outstanding medical facilities, which care about the health of people living in our communities. On behalf of the Brainerd Lakes Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, we thank you all for your contributions and participation with this event.

Koering is fiscally conservative

It's always easy to spend someone else's money. Let's see how well our elected officials did in St. Paul. The Taxpayers League of Minnesota issues a Legislative Scorecard after every session listing how well they did on various spending bills that raise taxes. The higher the score, the better the legislator is in protecting taxpayers' money.

In 2009, Sen. Paul Koering (SD 12) had a 67 percent rating, making him the seventh highest of all 67 senators. He respects our hard-earned dollars and is careful about spending. At the same time, Rep. Al Doty (12B) had a meager 7 percent rating; the second lowest of all 134 representatives. Rep. John Ward (12A) was even worse; his 0 percent rating is the lowest possible. It's obvious that Doty and Ward have no problem raising taxes on us, their constituents.

Sen. Koering has former one term-state representative, Paul Gazelka, as an opponent for the SD 12 Republican endorsement. Gazelka served in the 2005-2006 legislature and was defeated in a bid for re-election. His lackluster 58 percent rating for 2006 is rather low for someone who calls himself fiscally conservative.

Obviously, Sen. Koering is the only truly fiscally conservative lawmaker in SD 12.
