Barbara M. Skorich
AITKIN - Barbara M. Skorich, age 74, of Aitkin, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Aicota Health Services in Aitkin.
Barbara was born Nov. 27, 1934, at Duluth, Minn., the daughter of Harry and Jennie (Wedel) Anderson. She moved with her family to Aitkin in 1944 where she attended school and graduated from the Aitkin High School in 1953. She worked for a time at the Rexall Drug Store in Aitkin. She then attended Beauty School and Advanced Hair Styling School in Duluth. She worked at the Glass Block Beauty Shop as a stylist for six years. She married Nicholas Skorich on Aug. 1, 1959, in Duluth, Minn. They have made their home in Aitkin for the past 50 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Aitkin, the Tuesday afternoon Bible Study, was a confirmation prayer friend, was a grandfriend at the Rippleside Grade School in Aitkin, was a caregiver to shut-ins, family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and playing bridge with her friends.
She is survived by her husband, Nicholas Skorich, of Aitkin; sister and brother-in-law, Laura Jean and Merle Peterson, of Aitkin; two nephews and spouses and their families, Steven and Stella Peterson, of Bella Vista, Ark., and children, Monroe, Ann, Michael, Katie; stepchildren, Brittany, Houston and Dane, Jason and Karna Peterson, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and children, Isaac, Isabel and Grace; cousins, Betty (John) Soderquist, Maryann (Pat) Holder, Kathy (Terry) Hanlon, Elaine Kienitz, Darla Spencer, Shelby Kienitz, Mark Wedel, Marg Welshons, Bobby Shields and Martha Zipper; and aunt, Irene Wedel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Jennie Anderson; and cousin, Larry Shields.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church in Aitkin with the Rev. David Becker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church in Aitkin in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
