Sheldon C. Cartie
MOOSE LAKE - Sheldon Clark Cartie, 48, of Moose Lake, formerly of Brainerd, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in St. Cloud Hospital. He was born Sept. 9, 1961, in Duluth to John Duane and Dorothy Mae (Clark) Cartie. Sheldon was a Navy veteran, serving seven years as a naval air electronic technician, stationed in Lake Hurst, N.J., for four years and Antarctica and New Zealand for three years. Sheldon went on to become a registered nurse and also owned the Ossipee Store and Grill. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, all sports and once won a truck on "The Price Is Right."
Sheldon is preceded in death by his father, John Cartie; stepfather Douglas Collette; and his grandparents.
Sheldon is survived by his mother, Dorothy Collette, of Moose Lake; 17-month-old son, Tyson John Michael Cartie, of Crosby; two brothers, Steven (Nancy) Cartie, of Stafford, Texas, and Chris (Sandy) Collette, of San Diego; four sisters, Susan Cartie, of Hackensack, Sandra Cartie, of Princeton, N.J., Marci Mohelsky, of Rosemont, and Kelly Barsness, of Eagan; nieces and nephews, Justin Eller, Vanessa Bong Korhonen, Bryan (Amy) Cartie, Sarah Cartie, Brady and Bryce Barsness, Zachary Barsness and Chanel Collette.
A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Inurnment will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Brainerd. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sheldon's son, Tyson, for his education fund. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
