The nearly 30 inches of snow on the ground looks a lot like Christmas, but some of the people who normally might enter the lighting contest will have to sit this one out because the snow and cold prohibit them from installing lights.

The 420 parking meters installed 17 months ago in the downtown business section of Brainerd are now entirely paid for. The meters were installed at a cost of $29,975. Forty thousand dollars in pennies and nickels have been collected since the meters were put in operation.
80 years ago (1928)
Art Hautala, who filled the center position after Fox was declared ineligible and who held that position the major part the season was elected captain of the Brainerd High School football team for the year 1929.
100 years ago (1908)
The businessmen of Brainerd are looking on a big storm coming from Duluth with great complacence, as winter goods have been moving rather slowly because of the warm weather. The coal men were not the only one wanting cold weather.
