Crow Wing County is no longer on the list of the top 13 deadliest counties for alcohol-involved fatalities, but that has not stopped area law enforcement from working together on important projects, the State Patrol reported.
Being on the top 13 deadliest counties list in the past has meant that law enforcement agencies in Crow Wing County had received extra funding for impaired driver apprehension saturation events. Crow Wing County officers have worked well together with enforcement during the funded Safe and Sober events and funding will be available for more impaired driver enforcement in the lakes area.
Area agencies are choosing to work together for on-duty specialized enforcement events in addition to the formal, funded programs. Some of the informal on-duty projects include special saturations involving passing on the right issues, the move over law and other similar special-focus projects. Members of the Crow Wing County Passenger Safety Coalition have been working together to identify special problems in the area of traffic safety that law enforcement could work on. Impaired driving, seat belt use and child passenger safety are also on the local list for enforcement.
Saturation dates for the on-duty projects are not going to be announced in advance, but motorists should be aware of the fact that many informal mini-saturations will be conducted to curb the violations of speeding, passing on the right, the move over law and others.
