Fire damages Pelican Lake cabin
Fire heavily damaged a cabin Thursday on the shores of Pelican Lake in Mission Township.

The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. at a cabin owned by Mona and Garry Sonsteng on the 28000 block of Pelican Lake Road.

Mission Township Fire Chief Leon Yeager said though the cabin is still standing it would probably be ruled a complete loss based on interior damage.

Firefighters from Pequot Lakes, Crosslake and Mission Township battled a house fire on the shore of Pelican Lake in Mission Township Thursday morning. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.

No one was at the cabin at the time of the fire, Yeager said, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters spent three hours at the scene, made more difficult by temperatures in the teens and a strong wind blowing across the lake, Yeager said. The Crosslake and Pequot Lakes fire departments assisted.

Yeager said it wasn't known Thursday what caused the fire. The state fire marshal's office is investigating.
