Brainerd pond hockey deadline is Dec. 12

The deadline to register for the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's youth pond hockey program is Dec. 12.

Cost is $30. Helmets, elbow pads and shin pads are provided to the first 48 players who register. Participants must provide skates, sticks and mouth guards.

The co-ed teams are divided into two age groups. The Penguins are for boys and girls ages 7-10. The Polar Bears are for boys and girls ages 11-15. Ages are determined as of Dec. 31, 2008.

Individuals may register at the Brainerd Parks and Recreation office, located in Lum Park, during business hours; or go to www.brainerdparks.com and print a mail-in registration form.

Equipment hand out will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 20, at the Mill Avenue Park warming house. Practices and games start the first week of January.

Mid-State JV games to start earlier

All Mid-State Conference boys' and girls' junior varsity basketball games will begin at 5:45 p.m. this season.

In order to be consistent, all junior varsity games at Pequot Lakes will start at 5:45 p.m., which means varsity games may begin before 7:30 p.m. Patriots fans should plan accordingly.

Games on non-school days at Pequot may begin at different times.
