Tax levy approved CROSSLAKE CITY COUNCIL Senior Reporter CROSSLAKE - The Crosslake City Council Monday approved the tax levy payable in 2008 of $2,614,255.
The levy is a 3.6 percent increase, or an $87,881 increase from taxes payable in 2007. Taxes from the new construction category brought in $65,000, which was used to reduce the amount needed for the levy on the existing tax base. Year to date for 2007, the city has issued construction permits for 37 homes.
The council also approved the 2008 expenditure budget of $3,826,992. All council members approved. Council member Irene Schultz was not in attendance.
The council reported four people attended its Dec. 3 truth in taxation hearing with a handout of the proposed 2008 city budget. Two people addressed the council with concerns related to increases in valuation.
Crosslake noted it was the third lowest in average total tax rate among 29 area cities in 2007.
