There was good news for the Brainerd School District Finance Insurance Committee Friday. The district could save $20,000 on employee life insurance premiums when it changes insurance providers Feb. 1.
30 years ago (1977)
Employment for the city of Brainerd broke tradition during the month of November and actually showed an increase instead of a decrease. As December began the total number employed was 7,040.
40 years ago (1967)
"Pick" Pikula was recently awarded a trophy as the top Culligan salesman of the month. Pikula has been associated with Culligan softwater for 21 years.
60 years ago (1947)
Gasoline and fuel oil prices will advance about two cents per gallon Monday. The retail price at most stations will be 27 cents a gallon. This is the highest level in 25 years.
80 years ago (1927)
Much to the relief of Brainerd, the frigid, stinging air of the recent blizzard period has been succeeded by milder weather and a south wind.
100 years ago (1907)
Homestead No. 1607, B.A.Y. will give a raffle and dance at Odd Fellows Hall on Thursday Dec. 26. Tickets are 25¢.
