Cleon A. Peterson
Cleon A. Peterson, age 92, resident of Brainerd, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at Aitkin Health Services surrounded by his family. Mr. Peterson was born in Minneapolis on May 26, 1916, to Richard and Anna (Baar) Peterson. Cleon married Sadie Osberg in Minneapolis on June 25, 1938. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945 and was a member of the American Legion. He was a lifelong carpenter working in Brainerd for Vern Olson Contractors. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as head usher and a trustee for many years. He was a charter member of the Quarterback Club and was active in the Little League Baseball program in Brainerd. In 1994, Cleon was inducted into the Brainerd Warrior Hall of Fame as an at-large inductee.
Survivors include four daughters, Pamela (Jim) Knutson, of Baxter, Barbara (Roger) Moilanen, of Brainerd, Sandra (Alan) Newman, of Blaine, Carole (Dennis) Bollig, of Brainerd; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sadie; son, Terrance; and brother, Lennis Peterson.
Services will be held noon on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd with the Rev. Mark Kleckner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and will continue the hour before services at the church on Saturday.
