ST. PAUL (AP) -- A TV ad promoting Gov. Jesse Ventura's role as a color commentator with the XFL football league might have violated his contract with the league.
The ad showed Ventura at the Nov. 17 news conference announcing the agreement. During the ad, a voice stated: "As the nation waits for its next president, the XFL is declaring Jesse the Governor Ventura the new color commentator of the XFL. Coming February to NBC."
Mentioning Ventura as governor is a violation of his contract with the XFL, a co-production of NBC and the World Wrestling Federation, said David Bradley Olsen, Ventura's personal attorney. Olsen said he hasn't seen the ad but intends to talk to the producers.
The ad apparently was produced by the WWF, NBC Sports spokesman Kevin Sullivan said. It is no longer running.
Meanwhile, Ventura has been featured in five 20-second ads produced by NBC, Sullivan said. In the first, which appeared last week, he was shown against a dark background and reminisced about bygone pro football glory. The others will be similar, Sullivan said, and none mentions his title as governor.
The XFL Web site features a biographical page on Ventura that lists his stints as a former professional wrestler and football commentator, but does not refer to his present job, either.
