Board backs funding for state library system CASS COUNTY BOARD Correspondent WALKER - Cass County Board voted Tuesday to support a statewide initiative to seek additional state money for the 12 regional library systems in the state.
Marian Ridge, director of Kitchigami Library, told the board counties and cities have increased their funding for the regional systems, but the state has not raised its funding for any regional system in 14 years.
Commissioner Jim Demgen questioned whether the regional system is a duplication of libraries schools provide. Schools provide the community libraries in Arizona, he said.
Ridge said schools and community libraries serve different purposes. Kitchigami owns only its administrative offices in Pine River. Communities provide the school and community library facilities, she said. Kitchigami, then provides services to both schools and the community libraries, she explained.
Cass County again in 2007 will provide funding to help lake associations complete voluntary septic system inspections on lakes participating in that program.
