A diamond among the rough
Wedding ring found in Brainerd School District's lost-and-found
It may seem like an odd question, but are you missing your wedding ring?

If so, it may be waiting for you at the Washington Educational Services Building in Brainerd.

Denise Sundquist, the Brainerd School District's health and safety coordinator, also is unofficially in charge of the building's lost-and-found department, the place where your missing glove or sunglasses may have ended up if you dropped them in the building.

Sundquist said a small four-band wedding ring was found in Tornstrom Auditorium after the Oct. 14 Heartland Symphony Orchestra concert. The day before a BAY Rally had been hosted in the auditorium. She said the ring is likely old and since it is small, perhaps it was worn on a teenage girl's pinkie finger at the BAY Rally and then lost at the event. Or perhaps it was worn by the original owner at the orchestra concert. Sundquist isn't sure, but wishes that the person who lost the ring would come claim it.

"It could have been a teenage daughter who was wearing her nana's ring," said Sundquist. "It looks like something your grandma or great-grandma would wear. If it was my mom's or grandma's ring, can you imagine not knowing where it is?"

The wedding ring has one diamond on the main band, small diamond chips on the second band with five rubies on the third band.

The district office keeps the found items for about six months and then donates them to the Goodwill. Sundquist doesn't want that to happen with this wedding ring. She said the strangest things often pop up in the lost and found. For instance, there is currently a nice men's suitcoat in the district office lost and found, probably lost when the man paid a visit to the district office or attended a levy referendum presentation this fall. Once they found a student's flute which went unclaimed.

"You'd think a child would notice their instrument was missing," said Sundquist.

To check and see if your missing items are at Washington or if the wedding ring is yours, stop in at the district office at 804 Oak St. in Brainerd or call 454-6900.
