A nurse contacted Guida to report concern over a beaver biting a toddler in the abdomen. The beaver was reportedly dispatched on site by the child's father. The nurse and treating physician were concerned about the transmission of rabies to the child. Illustration

Officer Mathy, as well as officers from multiple agencies in the area, responded to a complaint from a homeowner that a deer was stuck in her basement. The homeowner was feeding deer near a basement window and the deer, for some reason, crashed through the window and ended up in the basement. Illustration

Conservation officer Tim Collette (Crosslake) checked many groups of late season anglers targeting perch, crappies, and sunfish. Success was fair with some nice bags of fish seen.  Remembering to purchase new angling licenses seemed to be a reoccurring issue, with several anglers found with expired ones. One group packed up and left in a hurry when the officer was seen on the ice. Illustration
