Citing changing times and changing technology, Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted said Tuesday he was throwing a curveball at the city council. After two years of working to implement body cameras for the police department, Exsted told the council his priority shifted to seeking cameras for the squad cars instead.

Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted removes equipment from his squad car Wednesday while conducting an investigation at Bill’s Gun Shop and Shooting Range in Baxter. Emergency personnel responded to a report of a shooting inside the store and later determined an adult male died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, which is not believed to be accidental.
