Group think on the opinion pages doesn't qualify as independent thinking. I agree that Trump's words are dumb but, how do you explain to readers why several outlets despise Trump's supporters by calling them names? Fake news is the enemy of the people and there are many examples of that found online. There are many outlets that present examples to give Trump's attacks credence. I would name them but, then this paper may not print this.
In the Tuesday, July 31 edition of the Brainerd Dispatch, I saw a full-page ad on the last page of the sport section asking for businesses to reserve space in the Progress Edition of the paper for Labor Day. I might be a stickler for details but shouldn't Labor Day be about the celebration of laborers and their issues? For some reason here in Brainerd the paper puts out a huge edition on that day about business. Somehow, I missed when labor began to really mean business. I suppose I should not be surprised when Mother's Day becomes a celebration of fathers.
It's time to get rid of some of the bears around this area. Last night my metal bird feeder was destroyed and the shepherd's hood it was hanging from also. I have a flat feeder there that hangs from wires. It was hanging sideways from the post just outside my living room windows. I've lived in this park for 17 years without any problems with bears. I'm in the middle of the park. Others have had trouble with bears at the end near the woods. Meadowview Manor is in Brainerd city limits. I know of two being hit by cars within a week.
So now we are in the space force debate again. He isn't satisfied with leading our country. Now he wants to control the universe. I can just see it now. "Trump" emblazoned across the moon. Then we have to get rid of those two ... planets, Mercury and Venus. They aren't good for anything and we should be first after the sun. The next thing would be a Trump hotel and Trump golf course on Mars. Who knows what would come after that. One can only imagine. Julie Pawlak Hackensack
As a business owner, I know the importance of connecting with our community, making the right choices and being a proven leader. After researching the candidates, it is clear Scott Goddard has my vote for Crow Wing County Sheriff. Scott has a proven track record of leadership, has current hands on experience in all areas of the sheriff's office and is a positive role model for our citizens. Scott Goddard has held many titles in his law enforcement profession and has continued to advance his career with hard work, dedication and commitment to those he is sworn to protect.
As a business owner in a neighboring county, we need to know that every effort is being made for sheriff's departments to work together to provide 24/7 coverage in this entire area as well as assist and back each other up when one or the other may not be available. As a net-worker and collaborator, Eric Klang is working with, and has great relationships with, the neighboring counties law enforcement agencies. He will work to assure that the safety of my business and my family, as well as the safety of others is a team effort—in Crow Wing county and neighboring counties.
Eric Klang's clearly the choice for Crow Wing County Sheriff. Eric's outstanding record of service to this county is unmatched, showing he can serve and lead—in multiple capacities including police chief, undercover drug enforcement, and of course sheriff. He's shown continued commitment to excellence by enhancing his skills with interdepartmental collaboration and education including graduating in 2017 from the FBI academy and obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice administration.
There is only one clear choice for the 2018 Crow Wing County Sheriff. Capt. Scott Goddard. Captain Goddard has the demeanor, temperament and management training needed to lead a multi-million dollar agency with approximately 130 employees. Captain Goddard was hired as a patrol deputy over 20 years ago. Since that time, he has tested and been promoted to sergeant, lieutenant and now captain. He has been tasked with managing several divisions within the department and has shown excellence in his work duties.
The "West Point of Law Enforcement" was where my candidate for sheriff was appointed, accepted, completed and graduated from in December of 2017. The FBI Academy has been recognized as the highest level of law enforcement training in the world. In our rapidly changing society, it's nice to know that the man in charge of our county law enforcement has had the best training possible.
I don't know any of the three candidates that are running for sheriff, but I do know Sheriff Todd Dahl and if he is supporting deputy Scott Goddard then that is who Kathy and I will be voting for. Don T. O'Brien Baxter
