God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. There are very few things that we long for more than peace and serenity and people from all over the world travel to the lakes area in search of it. My friends who travel here for vacation always tell me how amazing it is to “get away from it all” and how they “reconnected with their children” and how they were able to refocus on what is most important.
Nobody grows up saying, “When I grow up, I’m going to be an addict.” My grandfather was a dentist. As a child walking around town with Grandpa, people who knew him would say, “Hello, Dr. Anderson. Is this your grandson?” I was so proud! All I could think of at the time was, “Someday I want to be called Dr. Anderson.” Children have ideas and dreams about what their future might look like. Yet, for many of us, life took us down paths we were incapable of imagining at the time.
