Major League Baseball, in its attempt to speed up play, is starting out small. In a move that might save one minute every few games, MLB will no longer require pitchers to lob four pitches to issue an intentional walk, ESPN.com reported Tuesday, citing management and players union sources. A signal from the dugout will be sufficient to send a batter to first base with anintentional walk. There were 932 intentional walks in the 2016 season, or one every 2.6 games.
Danica Patrick estimates she suffered at least a dozen concussions during her racing career and told reporters Wednesday, Feb. 22, she would retire from NASCAR if a doctor told her there would be long-term risks from another head injury. The subject of concussions came up during Daytona 500 media day at Daytona International Speedway after Dale Earnhardt Jr. missed half a season last year to battle the symptoms.
A reunion between Derrick Rose and his former coach could be in the works. Minnesota Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau, who coached Rose for seven seasons with the Chicago Bulls, reached out to the New York Knicks to inquire about Rose's availability, ESPN reports. It is unclear what the Timberwolves are offering for Rose, per ESPN. But the team is reportedly motivated to move veteran Ricky Rubio as Thibodeau has settled on rookie Kris Dunn as the team's point guard of the future.

The Minnesota Wild recalled forward Tyler Graovac from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League on Monday. Graovac, 23, has six goals, 37 shots on goal and six penalty minutes in 45 games with Minnesota this season. He also has three goals, one assist and 13 penalty minutes in eight games with Iowa. The 6-foot-5, 212-pound native of Brampton, Ontario, owns six goals in 50 career NHL contests with Minnesota and 91 points (42 goals, 49 assists) in 184 AHL games with Iowa. Graovac was selected by Minnesota in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL draft.
NEW YORK -- Tennis star Genie Bouchard may have found love away from the court. Bouchard kept her word after the Atlanta Falcons' historic 25-point collapse in Super Bowl LI, as she went out with a fan who asked her for a date on Twitter if the New England Patriots came back to win the game. The 22-year-old Bouchard agreed to the stipulation on the heels of confidently saying that she knew the Falcons would win after their hot start. John Goehrke reached out to her by writing, "If Patriots win we go on a date?", and she responded "Sure."
Bracketology in the Oval Office is ending under President Donald Trump. The eight-year run of the president filling out an NCAA Tournament bracket on live television will come to a halt after Trump declined an invitation from ESPN to continue the tradition. "We expressed our interest to the White House in continuing the presidential bracket. They have respectfully declined," an ESPN spokesman said in a statement.
Charles Oakley's ban from Madison Square Garden lasted less than a week. The New York Knicks legend was banned from the team's home games last Friday following his highly-publicized altercation with security, who forcibly removed him from the arena during last Wednesday's game. Oakley was arrested and charged with three misdemeanor counts of assault and one misdemeanor count of trespassing. On Tuesday, Feb.
The Minnesota Wild placed defenseman Jonas Brodin on injured reserve Monday due to a fractured finger. Brodin, 23, suffered the injury against the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 17. Brodin owns 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 43 games with the Wild this season and ranks third on the team in blocked shots (68) and fourth in time on ice at 19:46 per contest. He has missed last 12 games. Minnesota also recalled forwards Zack Mitchell and Alex Tuch from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League, and placed forward Tyler Graovac on waivers.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady says his record-setting performance in Super Bowl LI wasn't his best game ever despite the historic 25-point rally over the Atlanta Falcons. Brady threw for a Super Bowl-record 466 yards, two touchdowns and one interception en route to New England's improbable 34-28 victory in overtime after erasing a 28-3 Falcons lead—winning his fifth championship ring and record fourth Super Bowl MVP Award. He broke, tied or extended nine Super Bowl records.
