Brainerd sets record high Saturday - just barely
Brainerd sets record high Saturday
The sun broke out Saturday and that was all it took for Brainerd to set a new record high.
Brainerd reached 69 degrees Saturday afternoon, besting the old record by a single degree. The previous high of 68 degrees was set in 2003.
The record-breaking spring of 2012 likely would have set more high temperatures but for recent cloud cover. In exchange, much-needed rain put a damper on wildfire danger.
But Saturday marked at least a one-day return to the record books.
The normal high for this date is 42 degrees. The record low for March 24 was 25 below, set in 1965, which also had the record for snow depth with 32 inches on the ground for that bone-chilling March day. In 1994, 7 inches of fresh snow fell on this date.
