The footprints led from the site of a damaged vehicle and theft to the home of the juvenile suspects. Brainerd Police Chief John Bolduc said Officer Ron Myers saw two juveniles walking late on Saturday and grew suspicious. Myers backtracked the path of the juveniles and found the footprints led up to a couple of vehicles. One was broken into. Brian Holtan, 1200 block of Sixth Avenue Northeast, reported a Mr. Buddy heater had been stolen from a vehicle.
Myers then followed the footprints right to the home where the juveniles were found. The parents didn't know the juveniles were out, Bolduc said.
"It was an excellent piece of police work," Bolduc said.
With this type of random violence, Bolduc said the police department hopes to get tips from the public. Bolduc strongly encouraged anyone to report suspicious activity.
At least eight vehicles in Brainerd suffered window abuse, as the driver's side windows were often smashed, during the past weekend. Bolduc said they do not know if all the vehicle vandalism was related to the same juvenile suspects.
But there was a rash of damage during the holiday weekend.
Ashley Beavens Saturday reported a rear window was broken out on a vehicle on the 800 block of Quince Street. Sarah Larson along with Elizabeth and Michael Scofield had the same report for two separate vehicles on the 1300 block of Pine Street.
Jerome Skeie, 1300 block of Quince Street, Sunday reported the driver's side window on his truck was shot out by a pellet gun. Darren Felten, 1600 block of Oak Street, Sunday reported a driver's side window smashed. David Eigenheer reported a similar fate for a driver's side window on the 700 block of South Eighth Street.
Cassandra Ryan reported a vehicle on the 1100 block of Oak Street was egged and keyed on the driver's side.
