WALKER - When Cass County moved many of the county's inmates to the new Crow Wing County jail last July, the need for nursing services at the jail in Walker dropped.
In 2006, nurses averaged 17.5 hours per week at the Walker jail. In 2007, that dropped to 11 hours per week, Jamie Richter, Cass adult health director, told the county board Tuesday.
Cass commissioners asked whether Crow Wing County might be able to provide information about the extent of health services being provided now for Cass inmates at the new facility in Brainerd. Richter said she would ask.
HHVS Director Dorothy Opheim informed the board a new video connection to Pillager Family Center has enabled financial workers to see and talk to clients in Pillager from their offices in Walker, saving travel time and costs.
Under a contract, the county will pay that family center $1,540 per month for the video service and $942 per month for support services for WIC clinics at Pillager this year.
