AREA BASEBALL Pierz becomes CMC champion
MAPLE LAKE - Alex Leach was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Pierz Pioneers as they beat the Maple Lake Irish 5-3 to clinch the Central Minnesota Conference title Thursday.
Michael Weber was 2-3 with a double and RBI and Scott Janson was 1-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Weber got the win as he threw four innings giving up nine hits and two runs, one of which was earned. He walked one and struck out five.

PILLAGER - Nick Hummel tossed a two-hit shutout to propel the Pillager Huskies to a 7-0 Park Region Conference victory over Parkers Prairie Thursday.
Hummel needed only 52 pitches to get through seven innings as he struck out three and only faced two batters over the minimum.
Justin Ringler, Tyler Holbrook and Adam Bybee each had two hits and Jordan Hunstad and Jake Eastman each had a double for the Huskies.

ALEXANDRIA - Beau Hanowski went 2-4 with a double in the Little Falls Flyers 5-4 Central Lakes Conference loss to Alexandria Thursday.
Alexandria loaded the bases in the ninth and scored on a hit to right field with two outs and two strikes to win the game.

BAGLEY - Andy Davidson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs for the Pine River-Backus Tigers as they were edged by the Bagley Flyers 9-8 in nine innings in Northland Conference baseball Thursday.
Jordan Ackerman was 3-5 and Bob Brogle was 2-4 for the Tigers.
Ackerman took the loss, but struck out 13.
