Grant assists Riverwood training program
AITKIN - Riverwood Healthcare Center's workforce will receive lean training with a Job Skills grant.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development reported customized training in continuous improvement processes for the entire Riverwood Healthcare Center workforce is expected to enhance the quality of care and keep costs down through a partnership of the healthcare center, Central Lakes College, Itasca Community College and DEED's Minnesota Job Skills Partnership.

The $326,171 MJSP grant will support a two-year training collaboration; Riverwood Healthcare Center will contribute more than $508,000 to fund the training project. Central Lakes College, Itasca Community College and Riverwood Healthcare Center will collaborate to provide entry level and advanced training and retraining to 367 allied health, nursing and administrative professionals. Individual and group coaching and mentoring will complement classroom training at Riverwood Healthcare Center and CLC. Courses will include work place organization, principles of continuous improvement in healthcare and health sigma.

The MJSP offers technical, financial and job training assistance to businesses, communities, educational institutions and workers. The board brings businesses with specific education needs together with educational institutions to design customized training programs.

Mike Hagen, Riverwood CEO, said the organization will be training 377 employees and pulling together all of its quality initiatives into this lean healthcare training program.

"Thanks to the customized training staff at Central Lakes College and Itasca Community College as well as our own education and foundation staff for pursuing this grant and putting all the pieces in place so we can kick off the training with our employees the first week in August."
