Lakes Financial builds on Legacy lead AREA GOLF LEAGUES
Lakes Financial Services scored a 25.5-18.5 victory over Dutch's Duffers Aug. 28 to increase its lead in the men's league standings at the Legacy Courses at Cragun's.
Lakes Financial now holds a 7.5 edge over second-place Halverson Law Office, which defeated Thelen Heating and Roofing 23.5-16.5.
Despite losing Dutch's Duffers remains in third place.

Legacy women
Dawn Buckwalter, Sandy Baumann, Jane Winter and Robyn Hinson shot 32 to win the scramble event Aug. 26 on the Dutch Course during women's league at the Legacy Courses at Cragun's.
Becky Butcher, Kay Gunnarson, Angela Sandelin and Malinda Johanneck shot 33 for second place.
Kate Swanson was closest to the pin. Angie Roby hit the longest drive.
Erin Books, Jessica Gangl and Jamie Clough shot 29 to win the Par 3 scramble. Julie Iten, Karen Opp, Kay Imsande and Cindy Hardel also shot 29, but finished second.
Hardel was closest to the pin and Pat Mueller sank the longest putt.
Sept. 16 is the final women's night and will again be a scramble. That event will begin at 5 p.m. on both courses.
Breezy Point men
Thomas & Associates defeated Bodyworks 7-5 Aug. 28 during position night of the second half of the men's Twilight golf league at Breezy Point Resort.
The winning margin wasn't enough as Bodyworks claimed the second half crown by four points.
The same teams will square off Thursday to determine the overall champion. Thomas & Associates won the first half crown.
Dick Parks Gas topped Cedar Creek Lumber 7-5 to finish third in the second half.

Breezy Point women
Joan Burnett was a double winner Aug. 28 during the Breezy Point women's golf league good stuff/bad stuff event to close out the 2008 season.
Burnett along with Darlene Palmer was closest to the line and Burnett and Martha Polsfuss were closest to the pin.
Jean Appleton and Janine Zitzow hit the shortest drives in the fairway while Cathy Seczko and Shirley Johnson smacked the longest drives in the fairway.
Appleton and Bugs Schmidt sank the longest putts.
Sue Adamson hit the most trees. Zitzow landed in three sand bunkers. Joi Brandt went out of bounds twice and Sue Obeidzenski was the only golfer to lose a ball.
Nine and Wine
Linda Gronholz, Connie Lazor, Ellie Balsimo and Kari Dayton shot a 40 to win the scramble event during the Aug. 26 Grand View Lodge Nine and Wine at the Garden Course.
Vicki Dypwick, Diana Almick and Patti Good finished second with a 42. Barb Elmquist and Joan McBrien had the longest putts and Good and Lazor were the winners of the mum plants.
The format on the Pines Course was Scottish Schamble with Cathy Seczko emerging as champion of the first flight with a 41. Arla Johnson and Pam Jager tied for second with a 46.
Donna Motzko tied Barb Wenschlag and Judi Moravac tied for the second flight title with a 55. Motzko collected the victory after a scorecard playoff.
Chris Lee and Pearl Peterson shot 57s to tie for second.
Jen Ree's 60 won the third flight and Ann Powers finished second.
Wenschlag and Seczko sank the longest putts and Wenschlag executed a chip in.
Motzko and Jager had birdies and Wenschlag and Ree won the mums.
A reminder to all women that Nine and Wine tee times move to 5 p.m. for September.
The next Nine and Wine will be Sept. 9 on the Lakes Course of The Pines and Garden Course. The last Coed Outing will be Sept. 16 at The Preserve.

Whitefish women
Janice DuBois, Pat Radovich, Linda Randall and Sharon Keister won the Red, White and Blue event Aug. 27 during the Whitefish women's 18-hole league.
Barb Hanson, Joan Heuer and Pat Montgomery captured second.
Nancy Schmidt, Maxine Riches, Shari Loechler and Leah Heggerston placed third and in fourth place was Deanna Frandsen, Barb Lindquist, Susan Walstrom and Joan Kantos.
DuBois' 68 was the low net as she carded two birdies. Schmidt also recorded a birdie.
Chip-ins were made by Sandy Meyer, Barb Holubar, Mary Kay Kendall and DuBois.
It will be regular league play Wednesday and Sept. 20.
Pine River Country Club
Arlene Gamache won the best poker hand event during the Aug. 28 women's league at Pine River Country Club.
Eileen Springer was second.
Eunice Sorenson had a chip-in and Nancy Schmidt registered the low putts.
Thursday's event will be net team.
