A 30-year-old Deerwood man was injured after being shot by a .22-caliber rifle while he was hunting geese about 7 p.m. Saturday on Nokay Lake Road, east of Brainerd in Deerwood Township.
Crow Wing County Sheriff's Sgt. Andy Bradley said Jory Danielson and several other hunters had placed goose decoys in a field near Nokay Lake Road and were laying in ground blinds when a nearby 15-year-old boy walking the edge of his parents property mistook one of the decoys for a large bird and shot at it, accidentally striking Danielson in the hip. Bradley said the boy was 150-200 yards away from the hunters.
Danielson was transported to Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby with non life-threatening injuries. A hospital spokeswoman said he was no longer a patient as of Monday night.
The name of the boy wasn't released Monday. The case is being reviewed by the Crow Wing County Attorney's office, Bradley said.
