Korte chosen to head Sertoma
The Brainerd Area Sertoma - Service to Mankind - Club recently inducted its new board of directors.
They are Mark Korte, of Nor-son Inc., as club president; LoAnn Reponen, of Culligan Water Conditioning, first vice president; Mary Marana, of Crisis Line and Referral Service, second vice president; Bill Goers, of Cygneture Title and Abstract Inc., third vice president; Cathe Picek, of Confidence Learning Center, secretary; Sandra Ehrich, of Ehrich Appraisals Inc., treasurer; and Steve Mau, of General Rental, board chair.
In addition, Karen Owen, of RiverWood Bank, was named district governor and Laura Beilke, of Youth as Resources, was named district foundation representative.
This summer, Owen, as district governor, and Korte, as club president, attended the International Sertoma Convention in Denver. More than 400 Sertomans were in attendance.
The Brainerd Area Sertoma Club, which meets noon Wednesdays at Bonanza in Baxter, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a celebration in Lum Park.
More than 100 current as well as former Sertomans and district Sertomans attended the event.
Sertoma is a service organization, whose primary service projects include addressing speech and hearing disorders as well as projects that promote freedom and democracy, youth causes and other community needs.
The Brainerd Area Sertoma Club membership is more than 170 members strong and is instrumental in community projects that include pipe and drape for meetings and conventions, gossamer ceilings at the Brainerd Armory and Brainerd High School, flag presentation throughout the area on patriotic holidays and at major community events. Members will be embarking on the second year of Sertoma Winter Wonderland, a holiday light display from Thanksgiving through New Year's Eve at the Northland Arboretum.
