Angland and Olson join accountilng firm
Janelle Angland and Abbey Olson joined Kummet, Larson, Bluth & Co., P.A, certified public accountants in Brainerd.

Angland, originally from Emmetsburg, Iowa, attended Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, where she received her bachelor's degree in accounting. Angland is a CPA with more than nine years experience providing accounting and income tax services to individual and small business clients.

Olson is a recent graduate of St. Cloud State University where she received her bachelor's degree in accounting and minor in finance.

Eckelman joins Brainerd Savings and Loan

Becky Eckelman joined Brainerd Savings and Loan as a mortgage loan originator in the Brainerd office on South Sixth Street.

She will originate new mortgage loans for refinancing, building or remodeling homes. She will also provide commercial lending. Eckelman has more than 25 years experience in mortgage lending, real estate, sales and marketing, and most recently was a top-producing lender and manager for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Baxter. She is active in the real estate industry, teaching real estate continuing education and Home Stretch classes for first-time homebuyers. She has a master's degree in business administration from the College of St. Scholastica.

Eckelman serves as a Northland Arboretum Executive Committee member and serves as the chair of the Arboretum's Membership and Marketing Committee. She also serves on the Crisis Line Board of Directors and is a St. Mathias Township Supervisor.

Lindbloom gains honor

Peter Lindbloom, Milaca, was honored by the Minnesota Academy of Physician Assistants with the 2008 PA of the Year Award.

Lindbloom, who works at Mille Lacs Health Systems, graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and the Master of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Program the University of Nebraska.

A 1986 Brainerd High School graduate, Lindbloom graduated from the University of Minnesota-Morris with a bachelor of arts in French and altered his planned career path from international business to emergency medicine after participating in an Emergency Medical Technician Ambulance program at UMM. As a UMM student, Lindbloom was involved with the Sports Medicine Club. A physician assistant guest speaker is credited with generating Lindbloom's professional interest, according to UMM. Lindbloom helped organize medical coverage as Tinman Triathlon co-chairman.

Lindbloom was appointed to serve as the PA representative to the State Trauma Advisory Council and MLHS presented him for achievements and excellence in his field with the 2007 St. Francis Award.

Lindbloom is the son of Paul and Jan Lindbloom of Brainerd and Arizona.

Three begin BNI leadership roles

Aaron Baseman, Ruth Norman and Stephany Hanson start leadership roles in the Lake Country Connections Chapter of Business Networking International.

Baseman is chapter president and Norman is vice president and Hanson is the secretary treasurer.

Brainerd chamber establishes ChamberNet groups

Two ChamberNet groups have formed through the Brainerd Lakes Chamber Ð ChamberNet Business Exchange and ChamberNet B2C (Business to Consumer).

Both groups pass referrals for specific businesses based on commercials and presentations given by members. ChamberNet Business Exchange focuses on business to business networking and referrals. This group meets 7:30 Ð 9 a.m. Friday mornings at the Holiday Inn Express in Baxter.

ChamberNet B2C caters toward retail businesses and passing leads for potential customers. This group meets at 7 a.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at Edgewood Vista in Brainerd.

Each ChamberNet group is led by a volunteer leadership team of five people. The annual fee for membership is $75. For more information about joining a group, contact Sue VanWagner for ChamberNet B2C or Todd Froemming or Roger Lapointe for ChamberNet Business Exchange.

Young professionals group changes name

The Lakes Area Young Professionals of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber has changed its name to Lakes Vybe.

The name change was determined by the Lakes Vybe committee after they found that people were having a hard time determining if they were eligible for the group by the terms "young" and "professional." The term "Lakes Vybe" was chosen so that all felt welcome.

Despite the new name, the Lakes Vybe group will continue to serve as a link for people ages 21 to 40 by offering educational programs and networking opportunities in order to enhance professional skills and create a sense of belonging within the business community.

The next event is a Lakes Vybe Luncheon Health Forum on from 11:30 a.m. Ð 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Holiday Inn Express in Baxter. Rachel Ladd Fish of Cuyuna Regional Medical Center will present health information to keep people feeling great even as winter approaches. A boxed lunch will be provided and the cost to attend is $10.

Barnett attends Retirement Plan Symposium

Christian Barnett, a Mid-Minnesota Investment and Retirement Service financial adviser, Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union, recently attended the October Retirement Plan Symposium in San Francisco.

A service offered to businesses will be a no-cost, no-obligation assessment of their current retirement plan. This assessment will provide information to help businesses fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities as a plan trustee.

Neve attends Avada Business Conference

Jim Neve, regional director of Avada of Brainerd, was one of nearly 200 clinicians who attended the Avada Business Conference in October in Las Vegas.

Haakonson joins Range Inc.

Katie Haakonson, CPA, joined Range Inc. (Range Printing) as controller.

Haakonson will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination of company financial planning, debt financing and budget management functions along with ensuring accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.

Previously she was a senior accountant at LarsonAllen LLP in Brainerd. Haakonson graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a bachelor's degree in accounting.

Wood education project launches new programs

True North Woods/Minnesota Wood Campaign and the Minnesota Wood Education Project are launching two new programs- True North Local/Sustainable Supplier Consortium and True North FSC Group Certification Program.

The True North Local/Sustainable Supplier Consortium program will promote suppliers of local/regional forest-based and non-forest-based materials and FSC certified forest-based products that will qualify for credits in building and remodeling projects under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and MN GreenStar certification programs to architects, interior designers, builders, remodelers, lumberyards and other entities.

There has been a significant increase in the number of building and remodeling projects seeking LEED and MN GreenStar certification and, thus, an increase in the demand for local/regional materials and FSC certified products.

Suppliers that participate in the TNLSSC program will gain access to buyers in a growing market segment, the program announced. To qualify for participation in the TNLSSC program, suppliers must either be producers of local/regional materials or Forest Stewardship Council certified forest-based products. Nisswa at Night planned Nov. 11

The Nisswa Chamber of Commerce networking event Nisswa at Night is planned from 5:30-7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Montana Furniture Traders Co., 17140 Highway 371 by Baxter.

What's Happening Crosslake planned

CROSSLAKE - What's Happening in Crosslake is planned from noon Ð 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Crosslake Community Center.

Lunch and Crosslake Planning and Zoning updates on the city's new sign ordinance are planned. The Parks and Recreation Department will provide information about the new improvements at the Community Center including the new patio and water garden, plans to expand the cross country ski trails, and a fundraiser to acquire grooming equipment. The Army Corps of Engineers will also be available to give an overview of the campground and recreation area.

Cost to attend this event is $5 with advance registration and $7 at the door. Advance registration is appreciated and may be done by going online to explorebrainerdlakes.com. Cancellations are accepted until 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Business After Hours planned in Aitkin

AITKIN - Business After Hours, the networking event, is planned from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 6 at The Office Shop, 211 Minnesota Ave. N. in Aitkin.

Vehicle inspector re-certification class set

A commercial vehicle inspector re-certification class will be from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 13 at the Business and Industry Center on the Central Lakes College campus in Brainerd.

Re-certification is required every two years. This class will review Minnesota commercial vehicle inspection laws and federal regulations. It will cover new law changes; inspection changes and will include a test for re-certification. The test will be taken during the last hour of class.

The class fee is $75. Instructor is Douglas Brown.

Food manager training planned at CLC

A Certified Food Manager course will be Nov. 13, 18, and 20 in the Business and Industry Center at Central Lakes College, Brainerd.

Going Into Business class offered Nov. 13

Central Lakes College in Brainerd will host a Going Into Business For Yourself class from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Business and Industry Center on the Brainerd campus.

Tuition is $40 per person and $60 for two business partners. Instructor is Jay Bock.

Electrical technician course offered at CLC

Central Lakes College, Brainerd, will host an electrical technician course, "Power-Limited Technician," from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Business and Industry Center.

Power-limited technicians are required to earn eight hours of continuing education credits every two years. This class will consist of NEC related material as required, as well as industry related information. Students will need to bring a calculator and the 2005 NEC Code Book, available at area electrical suppliers.

There will also be books available for purchase the day of the class for $57. Tuition is $160 and includes lunch. Instruction is provided by Riverland Community College. The deadline to register is Nov. 7.
