Outdoor News
LAKE MILLE LACS
Fishing activity has been limited to a few anglers trolling crankbaits during low-light periods and they haven't had much success. Deer registrations through two weekends are down slightly from last year, but the number of bucks taken appears to be up. Duck and grouse hunting reports have been non-existent since the deer season started.
LEECH LAKE AREA
Fishing reports have been limited and those that have been chasing walleyes are struggling. The second weekend of deer season was about the same as last year and hunters continue to see more deer than expected. Duck and grouse reports have been minimal since the deer season opened.
LAKE WINNIBIGOSHISH
There hasn't been any fishing activity over the past several weeks and probably won't be until there's ice. The deer season seems to be going well for some groups and not so good for others. Duck and grouse hunting reports have been minimal since the deer season began.
BRAINERD/NISSWA AREA
There aren't many people fishing, but a few walleyes and northern pike are being caught on redtail minnows at Gull Lake in 15 to 22 feet. Minnows also have triggered northern pike at North Long Lake in 14 to 20 feet. Bass and panfish action is non-existent.
EMILY AREA
There have been 380 deer registered, which is down from last year. Grouse seem to be more skittish, but hunters continue to shoot quite a few. Angling pressure has been limited over the past couple weeks.
HACKENSACK AREA
Walleye reports are poor, but spinnerbaits are turning bass and northern pike on most lakes in less than 15 feet. There also has been some crappie action reported on the smaller lakes in eight to 10 feet. Deer registrations from the second weekend climbed a bit, but remain down for the entire season. There has been several big bucks brought in.
