Fishing report
Outdoor News
BRAINERD/NISSWA AREA
Walleyes are hitting shiners and rainbow minnows in 16 to 22 feet on Gull Lake, Round Lake, and Pelican Lake. Glow jigs tipped with minnows and Eurolarvae are triggering panfish on most lakes in 10 to 18 feet - look deeper for the bigger crappies. Large sucker minnows are providing consistent pike action on Gull and North Long Lake.
LAKE MILLE LACS
East - There is some vehicle traffic to the mud flats now that the roads are plowed. The walleye bite has been decent on the edges of the flats in 27 feet. The Boot and Blue Jug flats seem to be most productive. The best perch reports, at least for a few more big fish, are coming from just outside Isle Bay in 14 to 17 feet.
West - Roads are plowed to the mud flats and the walleye bite has been pretty consistent. The best reports are coming off the Seven Mile, Eight Mile, and Seguchie flats in 30 feet during the day and in 22 to 28 feet during low-light periods. Perch action is limited to a few good-sized fish on the shoreline breaks and points.
LAKE OF THE WOODS
Limits of eating-sized walleyes and sauger as well as the occasional big fish are being caught in 19 to 24 feet. Look to the Pine Island, Morris Point, and Zippel Bay areas to be holding the most fish. At the Northwest Angle/Islands area, gold and white jigs tipped with minnows are providing excellent walleye action in eight to 12 feet around Oak Island.
LEECH LAKE AREA
There is some slush starting to show on many parts of the lake. As the snow continues piling up, travel options are becoming limited. Anglers are getting to Pine Point and catching perch in 10 to 12 feet. The best walleye action is taking place with spoons in Walker Bay over 20 feet of water. This bite seems to peak at sunset and beyond each day.
LAKE MINNETONKA AREA
On Lake Minnetonka, jigs and fathead minnows are producing walleyes in Wayzata Bay and Browns Bay in 16 to 35 feet. Crappies are being found suspended in Phelps Bay over 17 feet and sunfish are hitting in Grays Bay, Black Lake, and the North Arm of Minnetonka. Tip-ups and sucker minnows are triggering northern pike in the Arcola Bridge and Spring Park areas of Minnetonka. Shiner minnows are the ticket for walleyes on Medicine Lake in 23 to 26 feet during low-light periods.
RAINY LAKE
Jigging spoons and minnow heads are producing walleyes off Birch Point in?Sand Bay over 35 feet. The bigger pike also have started hitting minnows in this area in 30 to 35 feet. In the Rainy Lake City area, walleyes and pike are hitting throughout the day in 22 to 24 feet and crappie action remains slow.
LAKE WINNIBIGOSHISH
It's been hard to get a decent fishing report due to the cold and snow. The ice seems to be holding up well with little or no slush on the ice earlier this week. Roads are plowed and fish houses are out about two miles. Look for reports to start being more frequent by this weekend - if the weather improves.
NORTHEAST METRO
Walleyes, sauger, and crappies remain active in the Bayport area of the St. Croix River in 20 to 30 feet. The key to these fish has been No. 3 Rapalas. Look to Mud Lake and ?Lake Jane for pike in six to 10 feet. Shiner minnows and tip-ups are turning walleyes during low-light periods on Bald Eagle Lake in 12 to 20 feet and on White Bear Lake in 16 to 25 feet. Look to Demonterville Lake for sunfish in five to eight feet.
WEST METRO
Pike are cruising the shallows of Lake Auburn and Pierson Lake spearing and angling has been productive. Hit Lake Parley in 12 to 14 feet for crappies and sunfish. Crappies remain active during low-light periods on Hydes Lake and Lake Minnewashta in 12 feet. Work the sand bars and points in the Carver area of the Minnesota River for walleyes.
LAKE WACONIA
Setlines and shiner minnows are producing walleyes during low-light periods on Center Reef and Pilsbury Reef in 11 to 14 feet. The 20- to 30-foot hole off Pillsbury also has kicked out crappies. Sunfish continue to bite in eight to 14 feet in Waconia Bay, on Pillsbury Reef, and West Center Reef. Sucker minnows are turning a few pike on West Center Reef in 10 to 13 feet.
ALEXANDRIA AREA
Fishing reports have been limited, but the wind, snow, and cold have kept many anglers off the ice. An occasional walleye is pulled from Lake Miltona or Lake Ida with shiner minnows in 22 feet. Sunfish have been tough to find, although the crappie bite has been decent in 20 to 22 feet on lakes Le Homme Dieu and Mary.
ANNANDALE AREA
Crappies and sunfish are hitting Eurolarvae in 20 feet at Clearwater Lake, Little Maple Lake, and Lake John. Pleasant Lake and Buffalo Lake are kicking out crappies in 20 to 22 feet and look for a mixed bag of panfish from Pelican Lake in shallower water. Walleyes and perch are being taken in eight to 12 feet on Blackduck Lake. Look for bluegills and crappies on Blackduck in 18 to 20 feet. Jigging Rapalas are turning walleyes on Island Lake in 10 to 14 feet and northern pike spearing has been strong on most lakes. Lakes such as Rabideau and Gilstead are worth noting for panfish.
CHISAGO AREA
On North Center Lake, you'll catch sunfish during the day and walleyes at night in eight to 15 feet. The south end of Chisago Lake is giving up crappies and sunfish in eight to 12 feet from the A-Frame to the Eagle's Nest. Work the Pancake Island area of South Center Lake for panfish and the occasional walleye. Little Green Lake is a safe bet for crappies in 10 to 12 feet. On Sunrise Lake, northern pike and sunfish are biting consistently in 12 feet or less.

Work the points and bars of most lakes with tip-ups and sucker minnows for northern pike.
DETROIT LAKES
Jigging spoons or setlines and shiner minnows are producing walleyes in 17 to 20 feet at Big Detroit Lake, Lake Sallie, Lake Melissa, and Island Lake. The 12- to 18-foot weedlines on Floyd Lake, Severson Lake, Big Detroit, Sallie, and Melissa are holding sunfish and crappies. Northern pike are hitting on most lakes in 12 to 16 feet.
DULUTH AREA
Boulder Lake is kicking out crappies and walleyes in 10 to 12 feet during the evening hours on glow jigs and small minnows.
