Simonson Lumber, on Independence Road in west Baxter, is looking at adding an additional accessory building on the south part of its property for a fifth warehouse building about 12,000 square feet in size along with a temporary office building to allow for more social distancing and greater efficiency. Simonson Lumber’s main office will remain in the Brock White building next door. In the future, an office is planned as an addition to one of the existing buildings.
In information before the city of Baxter for permits, Simonson Lumber noted the new warehouse and temporary office building are needed to handle the increased sales volume due to the coronavirus. The new warehouse construction will allow Simonson Lumber to move inventory now stored outside to be mostly inside the new building.
“Being allowed to construct the new warehouse and temporary office building would allow the applicant time to evaluate what sort of principal structure would be most desirable for the business and where it would ultimately be located,” the city staff report noted. Simonson Lumber also sought approval to pave a driveway to run from the west end of Independence Road into its property. The city council approved all requests Tuesday.
Pampered Pets, on Industrial Park Road in Baxter, received approval Tuesday for a variance to put a lean-to addition on its building. The lean-to roof with open sides would go over a currently fenced area. The roofing is designed to help keep an outdoor area for the pets clean and free of snow. The city council approved the variance for the construction.
