The tantalizing Timbit doughnut holes are still on the drive-thru menu at Tim Horton's, but not for much long it would appear.

Tim Horton's opened with fanfare, and not just because it was across the street from the Dispatch, but that did help. The box of assorted Timbits was a frequent addition to the newsroom. So while it may have helped on a health level, those doughnuts were still missed mightily.

Tim Horton's constructed the coffee and bake shop building on a vacant lot in 2016 and closed that West Washington Street shop by Wendy's in 2019. The building has been empty ever since with Tim Horton's name and menu on the drive-thru lane still there frozen in time.

For awhile the word was Caribou was moving in but the deal wasn't done yet, but recently a new sign showed up announcing Caribou is indeed in the future. This will mark the fourth Caribou in the Brainerd and Baxter area. Recent trends point to the need for a coffee shop every few blocks after Starbucks also expanded and opened this year in East Brainerd on Washington Street by Jimmy John's.

Now Caribou will pick up a prime spot on Washington Street and add to the options to get a beverage and some food options.

Speaking of doughnuts, a new doughnut shop announced it is opening in downtown Brainerd this summer.

The Brainerd Donut Co.'s Facebook page was created May 3. Organizers reported in a post that the menu wasn't solidified just yet but he expectation is to open in early summer and bring "a fun and fresh variety of donuts to downtown Brainerd. "

Tri-County Health Care in Wadena will have a groundbreaking ceremony for a 170,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art health care facility at 12:30 p.m. May 21, which will be open to staff and special guests because of COVID-19 restrictions, and will be livestreamed as well.
