A number of businesses are making things work and finding options and thriving even with the challenging conditions.
At the Quarterdeck Resort in Nisswa, the onset of the coronavirus pandemic generated the same concerns on how the business would fare as the hospitality industry faced. But this year, the resort exceeded its lodging revenue in its history in business.
Quarterdeck is described as a boutique family resort on Gull Lake’s west shore with high-end lakefront cottages.
“Quarterdeck has been exceedingly popular for families and weekend getaway guests to avoid the crowds traditionally found at larger resorts,” said Quinn Swanberg, general manager, in an email. “We attribute this success to the boutique nature of the resort and the fact that management and staff have been pro-active in following the CDC guidelines to protect the health of our lodging guests, restaurant patrons and employees.
“Our year to date lodging revenues have exceeded all lodging revenue records since the founding of the resort in 1957 despite the Covid 19 virus challenges.”

They noted the Quarterdeck Resort’ Boathouse Event Center is also a popular destination for weddings with lakeside lawn, newly completed full kitchen and 180-seat restaurant.
Swanberg said the coronavirus postponed many of the scheduled summer weddings at the 27-acre but now has 11 weddings scheduled between now and Oct. 1 with events scheduled in 2021.
The Brainerd Dispatch Progress Edition featuring businesses that are making things work and navigating these strange times will be in the paper Sept. 9.
