Brainerd Daily Dispatch photographer Clint Wood finished seventh out of 15 photographers scoring points in the 1999 Minnesota Newspaper Photographer's Association contest standings where points are accumulated all year.

Brainerd Daily Dispatch photographer Clint Wood finished seventh out of 15 photographers scoring points in the 1999 Minnesota Newspaper Photographer's Association contest standings where points are accumulated all year.
In the second quarter, Wood won the feature category of the contest with a photo of Mike Humrickhouse, who played "Goldlilocks" in a play, sipping cold porridge; placed second in sports action with a photo of a Wadena-Deer Creek long jumper and placed third in the same category for a baseball runner stealing third. In the third quarter, Wood placed second in the photo story category with a photo story of a muddy Moondance Jam VIII in Walker. In the fourth quarter, Wood took third place for a photo story of elementary school students launching rockets.
The contest was open to all daily newspaper photographers in Minnesota.
Kelbert joins chiropractic office
BAXTER -- Kyle Kelbert, doctor of chiropractic, recently joined Crow Wing Chiropractic Clinic in Baxter.
Kelbert, originally from Manitoba, Canada, relocated to Minnesota to attend chiropractic school. He recently graduated with a doctorate of chiropractic degree, as well as a bachelor's degree in human biology.
Before moving to Baxter, Kelbert practiced in the Twin Cities and in Europe where he was affiliated with a chiropractic exchange program in France, developed through the Rotary organization. Kelbert focused on sports chiropractic, attending sports-oriented seminars and gaining experience treating athletic injuries at different events around the state.
Schultz joins Nelson Graphic
BAXTER -- James Schultz recently joined the staff at Nelson Graphic Design and Advertising in Baxter.
Schultz most recently worked at Quality Graphics. Experienced in electronic production experience, Schultz is production manager at Nelson Graphics, which has specialized in the outdoor recreational market for more than 25 years.
Rickard joins Integra Telecom
BAXTER -- Kristine Rickard recently joined Integra Telecom, Baxter, formerly InfoTel Communications.
A graduate of the Minnesota School of Business, Rickard recently joined the Baxter office as an administrative assistant. She previously worked with Medtronic, Inc., based in Minneapolis.
Mark Erickson joins WSN
BAXTER -- Mark Erickson joined the environmental department of Widseth, Smith and Nolting's office in Baxter.
Erickson has a bachelor's degree in geology from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
As a wetlands specialist, Erickson is responsible for locating wetland boundaries for surveyors and preparing wetland permit applications for clients and government agencies. He is also responsible for conducting site reconnaissance, researching site history for environmental property assessments, analyzing data, drawing conclusions and preparation and presentation of environmental site assessment reports to clients.
Gapinski gains promotion at A-Tek
Brian Gapinski was promoted to material manager at A-Tek, Brainerd.
Gapinski joined A-Tek two years ago as assistant materials manager and has a strong materials background. His responsibilities include managing all aspects of the materials department, including planning, purchasing, inventory control and warehouse.
A-Tek, a member of the Acrometal companies of the Brainerd area, manufactures telecommunications products for the 3M Telecommunications division of Austin, Texas.
Chough joins orthopedic practice
AITKIN -- Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Leo Chough, joined the staff at Riverwood HealthCare Center in Aitkin and will be in full-time practice with Dr. Shiraz Patel.
Chough earned his medical degree from Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Missouri, where he also completed his residency. Chough completed a one-year fellowship in Sports Medicine through the University of Pennsylvania. He trained with physicians associated with the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers and served on the medical staff for the St. Louis Cardinals, Rams and Blues. For the past year Chough practiced orthopedics in the state of Washington.
Sports medicine and total joint replacement of the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees will be Chough's emphasis.
Smith joins family practice in Aitkin
AITKIN -- Family practice physician, Dr. Joanne "Jody" Smith, will be joining the other seven practitioners at Riverwood HealthCare Center and Ripple River Medical Center in October.
Smith received her bachelor of science degree from Macalester College and attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth and the University of Minnesota Schools of Medicine. She completed her family practice residency in Duluth at the Duluth Family Practice Center.
Smith states she became a doctor by following in her father's footsteps, who practiced medicine in a small southern Minnesota town.
Carkhuff joins medical supply firm
Janelle Carkhuff recently joined the North Central Medical Supply staff in Brainerd.
Carkhuff worked as a licensed social worker for the past 10 years at St. Joseph's Medical Center. She will focus on sales, accessing resources for clients and office operations.
Carkhuff and her husband, Skeeter, are co-owners with Dennis and Julie LaValle.
Distributors attend GNLD meeting
Brainerd area distributors, Scott and Bozena Persons, recently attended an America's Sales Team meeting and lifestyle event in Canada, hosted by Golden Neo-Life Diamite Internationals.
The three-day event in Victoria, British Columbia, involved in-depth business-building training. The Persons are saphhire directors in GNLD and members of the America's Sales Team. They've been associated with GNLD since 1981.
