Crosby Eye Clinic to receive new owner, new name

CROSBY - Dr. Stacy Sjoberg, ophthalmic, surgeon at Crosby

Eye Clinic, announced her new ownership of Crosby Eye Clinic, effective Sept. 20.

Sjoberg will be the sole owner.

The clinic will be changing its name.

Dr. Stacy Sjoberg and Dr. Ina Drown will continue to provide ophthalmic services and surgery in both the Baxter and Crosby locations.

"We will continue to provide services at our clinical outreach locations in McGregor, Ne-Ia-Shing Clinic for the Mille Lacs

Band of Ojibwe, Onamia, and Staples. We will also continue to provide surgical services at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, Riverwood HealthCare Center in Aitkin, Brainerd Lakes Surgery Center in Baxter, Mille Lacs Health Care Center in Onamia, and Lakewood Health Care Center in Staples," Sjoberg said.

Sjoberg will continue to provide refractive surgery, LASIK and PRK, at the Crosby location.

Lastly, in order to reflect the greater community Crosby Eye Clinic serves, the clinic name will transition to the Great River Eye Clinic.

"We are the same dedicated doctors and staff committed to bringing the same quality service to our community, continuing the Crosby Eye Clinic/Jerry Poland Legacy," Sjoberg said.

Crosby Eye Clinic has provided ophthalmic, optometric and optical services for 39 years. The clinic will continue to employ two ophthalmologists, three optometrists and all support staff.

Schulte joins Entrepreneur Fund

The Entrepreneur Fund announces Joe Schulte as its new senior business developer.

Schulte will provide strategic support and financing for Itasca County entrepreneurs who are seeking to start or grow their business. Schulte will also be building the lending referral network, working with borrowers through the loan process, meeting area entrepreneurs and providing direct consulting to assist in meeting business goals.

The Entrepreneur Fund serves an 11-county region, with the service area including Aitkin, Carlton, Cass, Cook, Crow Wing, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Pine and St. Louis counties in Minnesota, and Douglas County in Wisconsin.


Lee joins Widseth Smith Nolting

Widseth Smith Nolting announced funding specialist Jordan Lee is the latest addition to its expanding funding department.

Lee received a bachelor of arts in political science and a bachelor of arts in European studies from Winona State University in 2012 and is currently completing a master's degree in public administration at the University of North Dakota.

As a funding specialist, Lee has experience with multiple project financing sources for public infrastructure, healthcare, community, education, housing, and office building projects. He maintains strong working relationships with personnel at state and federal funding agencies and can assist with positioning projects for favorable consideration by decision makers.

At WSN, Lee is responsible for researching and securing funding sources for various projects and administering and providing guidance throughout the grant application process. He is also responsible for establishing relationships with funders and state and federal agencies while working alongside WSN's Senior Funding Specialist, Pat Conroy.

Lee's previous experience includes working for Moorhead's City Manager, serving as City Clerk/Treasurer for the City of McIntosh, working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of North Dakota, and interning for the Clay County auditor.

 

Johnson joins Nystrom & Associates

BAXTER - John Johnson, pyschotherapist, recently joined Nystrom & Associates in Baxter.

Johnson has a master of science degree in applied psychology. He most recently worked with co-occurring clients in a residential treatment center. The past 22 years have been spent working in residential settings for chemically dependent/mentally ill clients and for adolescents in correctional facilities; conducting in-home family therapy; outpatient therapy; and working as an elementary and junior high school counselor.

Johnson's new responsibilities include providing therapy for children, adults, families, couples and co-occurring individuals.

 

Bed and Biscuits Pet Inn changes hands

Elissa Noble, Jordan Kuhn, Natasha Robertson are new ownwers of the Bed and Biscuits Pet Inn on County Road 45 in Brainerd.

The business includes boarding services and dog daycare with basic grooming services.

Lakewood is one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for patient experience for second consecutive year

Hanzel joins CRMC

CROSBY - Anne Hanzel of Eagan joined Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby as surgical services administrator.

A perioperative nursing professional, she has more than 25 years senior-level experience.

Hanzel most recently worked at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for three years and before that was at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis for four years. She has also held positions at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wisconsin, Yampa Valley Regional Medical Center in Colorado, Allegiance Healthcare Corporation in Chicago, National Naval Medical Center in Maryland, and the Naval School of Health Sciences and U.S. Naval Hospital Ship Comfort T-AH 20, both in California.

A retired U.S. Navy Commander, she has 21 years active duty health care and progressive leadership experience. Hanzel earned a master's degree in business management at Webster University in San Diego and a master's degree in nursing at Marymount University in Arlington, Va. Her bachelor's degree in nursing was earned at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph.

Sandelin-Woods hired by Good Samaritan Society

Good Samaritan Society - Home Care recently welcomed Mary Jane Sandelin-Woods as director.

Sandelin-Woods, originally from Oregon, comes to Good Samaritan Society - Home Care with more than 14 years of local nursing experience - specifically in senior care. She enjoys caring for older adults and appreciates working for an organization founded in faith.

Eastman joins Comfort Keepers

Jay Vasek, owner of Comfort Keepers of Little Falls and Brainerd, recently announced the appointment of Ashley Eastman as registered nurse client care coordinator.

Comfort Keepers provides in-home services on an hourly, daily or weekly basis with tailored services including companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, incidental transportation, laundry and more.

Eastman will be providing in-home client assessments, client intakes, developing care plans, compliance of licensure and supervision of caregivers and training.

Cowell gains national award

David Cowell, a Northwestern Mutual wealth management adviser based in the Brainerd lakes area, received the company's Financial Security award based on an outstanding year of helping clients achieve financial security.

Cowell was ranked 19th in the country out of more than 7,500 financial representatives.

Northwestern Mutual recognized Cowell at its 134th annual meeting event in July, in Milwaukee, Wis. Cowell joins an exclusive group of representatives across the country who have achieved recognition.

 

Gebhardt joins Essentia Health

Dr. Kristi Gebhardt joined the internal medicine team at Essentia Health St. Joseph's-Brainerd Clinic in Brainerd.

Although Gebhardt will care for adults of any age, she has a special interest in geriatric medicine. "I have past experience working with older adults and I've always enjoyed caring for patients in the later stages of life," she says. "I love getting to know my patients and their families, and as we get older, family plays a larger role in caretaking. It's a joint effort."

Gebhardt earned her medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W.V., and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Grand Forks, N.D.

 

Backwoods Furniture gains recognition

Backwoods Furniture was recently presented with a plaque of congratulations from the Cass County Economic Development Corporation (EDC).

Owner, Kyle Stanish, expanded his product lines with assistance from the EDC.

This furniture manufacturing company is located in Sylvan Township and specializes in rustic cabin and home furniture made from local wood. They sell their products wholesale to 65 different outlets, including Frizzell Furniture in Walker or Milaca Unclaimed Freight in Milaca.

 

CliftonLarsonAllen Brainerd office announces staff certification

Aaron Stegner was recently awarded his Certified Public Accountancy certification. Stegner has been employed with CliftonLarsonAllen since April 2014 and currently working as an associate in the commercial services department. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.

CROSBY - Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby is hosting a career fair on from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday at Heartwood Senior Living Community in Crosby.

Hiring managers will be onsite to speak about available opportunities, answer questions and conduct interviews. Featured opportunities include senior housing assistant, registered nursing assistant, cook, dietary aide, and environmental services aide.
